Adelboden

The resort of Adelboden, situated on a sunny stepped terrace in the Engstligen Valley in the Bernese Oberland, was first discovered by vacationers just after the turn of the century.

Countless visitors have been attracted by the area, which has been declared an area of outstanding natural beauty, the towering peaks and the away-from-it-all atmosphere. Skier will love this village for the limitless skiing facilities and the off-slope fun.

Yet the village lies some 1375 m/ 4,500 feet above sea level, it is still easily accessible by either public transport or private car. If you are travelling by car, the village is just a half-hour’s drive along the well-maintained roads after the “Spiez” motorway exit; the car journey from Zurich or Basel takes about 2 hours. Train travellers arrive at Frutigen, a stop for all the trains on the Loetschberg main line, and then take one of the modern buses to the village.

In winter

Generous winter arena! Every year, snowfall transforms the Adelboden-Frutigen region into a spectacular winter arena: for demanding sporting highlights and events like the traditional FIS Skiing World Cup - as well as for magical winter rambles on the Adelboden sun terrace. Cross-country trails, walking paths and sledging tracks invite you to discover the alpine winter world while numerous mountain hostelries provide the perfect place to while away a few pleasant hours in convivial company.

56 efficient transport facilities serve the piste network of more than 170 km, which counts as one of the largest and most beautiful skiing centres of the Swiss alps. A paradise in which every snowsports enthusiast will find his or her ideal conditions.

SKI : Adelboden-Frutigen-Lenk ski region with 55 lifts of all kinds and over 170 km of pistes. Ski schools.

SNOWBOARD GMP : Hahnenmoos snowpark, free ride area Engstligenalp. Snowboard schools.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING : 18 km cross-country runs (classic and skating). Cross-country centre on Engstligenalp (2000 m).

WINTER HIKING : More than 70 km of marked and prepared winter hiking trails. Adelboden mountain railway hiking pass.

TOBOGGANING/ORIGINAL ADELBODEN SKIBOCK : TschentenAlp tobogganing trail.

MOUNTAIN SPORTS : Snow shoe excursions, ski tours, ice climbing, guided freeride tours, avalanche training courses.

CURLING/ICE SKATING : Adelboden artificial ice centre with 6 curling rinks (3 indoor and 3 outdoor) and ice sports field (outdoor). Curling and ice skating course.

PARAGLIDING :Official take-off and landing sites. Paragliding courses and passenger flights.

In summer

Over 300 km of perfect hiking, walking and mountain trails and a wide choice of cycle and mountain bike routes for unforgettable discoveries and experiences in a unique setting, combining nature and a man-made landscape. Observe the primevalforce of water: the 600 m high Engstligen waterfalls, Cholerenschlucht, Pochtenkessel, Adelbodner mineral springs. Traditional mountain farming with alpine huts and alpine cheese dairies.

In this unique mountain landscape, you can also enjoy tennis courts, a heated panoramic swimming pool in Adelboden or the open air swimming pool in Frutigen.

For example with "Alpine Indulgence" you can enjoy home-produced specialities and regional dishes with family or friends. On 9th July 2005, Adelboden was officially accredited by Alpine Wellness International as the first Alpine Wellness resort in Switzerland. This qualification certifies that Adelboden has a comprehensive Alpine Wellness infrastructure and in all areas of Wellness competence scores highly for quality and attractiveness.
