Fiesch

Fiesch is situated on a low hill on the sunny side of the valley of the upper Rhone, where it is met by the Fiescher valley. In the old part of the village you can see the typical weathered houses of the Valais. In the heart of the forest on the edge of the village is the well-known "Fiesch Sport and Leisure Centre", offering accommodation for groups, professional and amateur sportsmen and women, and numerous sport and leisure facilities such as an indoor pool, sports halls, outdoor climbing wall etc. Fiesch is one of the family-friendly Swiss resorts to have been awarded the "Families Welcome" seal of quality.

Summer

In summer the Aletsch resorts of Fiesch, Fiescheralp, Bettmeralp, Riederalp and Belalp offer a pleasant walking area close to the Aletsch Glacier in the UNESCO natural World Heritage Site of the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn. The Fiescheralp, because of its special thermal currents, is particularly well-known to hang-gliders and paragliders.

The most popular tourist destination is the Eggishorn at 2927 m, reached by cable-car from Fiesch. The walk is called "From the ice to the water" and takes you in four hours down to the Fiescheralp. From the small but charming Märjelensee, walkers enjoy a wonderful view of the nearby ice-sheet of the Aletsch Glacier.

The Goms mountain trail or "King's Route" begins in Bellwald above the Fieschertal and leads down on the sunny side of the valley, with lovely views, to the main town of the Goms region, Münster. Very popular with the children are the two "Gogwärgi-Wege" (Dwarf's Paths) where there are meter-high wooden dwarves. Children also enjoy making a trip to the Aletsch Wildlife Park, a pets' zoo with Swiss domestic and wild animals.

Winter

Winter sports in Fiesch means winter sports on the Eggishorn and in the whole Aletsch skiing area, with its 35 lifts and 100 km of prepared slopes for skiers, carvers and snowboarders of all abilities. From the Fiescheralp to the valley village of Lax there is a wonderful 13 km long sledging run. Winter walkers find plenty to do in Fiesch with its 35 km network of winter walks. Nordic skiers will find a cross-country skiing paradise in the Goms, with kilometres of track.
